Noodles @ Dong Fung Kopitiam, Bukit Cina, Malacca

Home boy is back in town everyone! In a previous trip back to visit Grandma, I took this opportunity to straddle down memory lane and head of to Dong Fung Kopitiam.

Walking down memory lane.

Just a few minutes walk from Jonker Street, this humble shop has a very special place in my heart at my Great Gran used to live behind this shop before she passed and this was the venue where my Grandpa have his meals during working hours while tending to his tyre workshop many years ago. Alot of great memories were forged at this place and the food is great too.

There were many things in store and there are still many now. However, some of the older hawkers have passed on but new ones have taken over. One that withstood the test of time is the yong tau fu noodles stand.Being 8.30 am, it is fairly busy and will continue to be so until lunch so coming here early is a good idea.

Breakfast of champions? Probably not, but awfully close

Nostalgia just comes rolling over when my bowl arrives. The noodles were glistening with their special sauce flavoured with shallots and pork. I really do not know what is in that sauce, but it makes simple noodles taste so fragrant. The yong tau fu that are served alongside it are no sideshows either. Much smaller that how I remembered them to be, the fish paste filling still satisfies.

Just so good.

Supple and chewy, it does have a spring to its texture. It is not too salty but salty enough to amplify the flavours of the sea in the filling. Humble, honest and simple, to me this is what food in Malacca should be. I remember a time when it used to stand for a modest RM3.50 a bowl, but the price is now RM6.80. Unfortunately, its hard for prices to withstand the test of time. Nonetheless, when it is served with a good cup of coffee, it lead to a great breakfast.

Men at work

This place is also famous for its dim sum and stir fries, which they do sell in the morning and would gladly come again to chow down to them. In the meantime, if you are keen in having a good bowl of noodles, the address is as follows:

119, Jalan Temenggong 75000 Malacca
